Our Eternal Hope Versus PTSD

In The Triumph of the Redeemed — An Eternal Perspective that Calms Our Fears in Perilous Times, I explain how the Lord brought relief to my lengthy bout with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Healing came as my beliefs regarding the end times became more than head knowledge, more than doctrinal matters to defend.

It was when Jesus’ promise of eternal life replaced my earthly aspirations as the main focus of my life that hope began to replace my deep-seated anxieties.

In the book, I provide just a few details of the trauma that led to my PTSD so as to give the reader some context for what happened. After explaining the rugged path to healing, I emphasize how a biblically sound anticipation of Jesus’ imminent appearing leads to these five aspects of our glorious hope as believers:

  1. Our receipt of immortal and imperishable bodies at Jesus’ appearing, which will also include total inward wellness.

  2. Our participation in a jubilant celebration followed by a fabulous wedding feast,

  3. Our glorious return to earth with Jesus,

  4. Our reign with Jesus for a thousand years during which time we will fully understand the purposes behind all our varied experiences in this life,

  5. Our life in paradise during which time we will dwell in the New Jerusalem and explore the wonders of God’s creation in new earth; an experience that will be over-the-top joyous and wonderful beyond our imagination,

My past still haunts me at times, but it is my hope in Jesus’ appearing that brings me back to where my ultimate hope lies.
